The Space That Makes Us Human is a documentary film experience inspired by the mission, vision and voices of The Karman Project, a non-profit organization created by Orion Mission’s Vice President, Helene Huby, aimed to foster dialogue between super high profile people in the space industry – and beyond – coming from geopolitical areas that are usually not communicating between each other. Karman wants to create a platform that serves as a United Nation but for space by the vision of Helene Huby and the project’s main key figures such as astronaut Thomas Pesquet, William Gerstenmeier, former ISS architect and Elon Musk’s current constant, Jean Jacques Dordain, former director of the European Space Agency, Antony Baudry, Michael Najjar, Feng Yan and Evan Spiegel, Snapchat’s CEO. 

The documentary showcases the profound potential of space in bringing us closer to our dreams, to our capabilities, our responsibilities and ultimately to each other. Our desire is to remind everybody—from space leaders to the enthusiasts of a new generation – that space is fundamental to the human experience, and achieving true global cooperation can position space as an equaliser for humanity.

The Space That Makes Us Human is a one-of-its-kind campaign, which aims to bridge science and the arts, global leaders and the greater public. All are welcomed to journey through four chapters, each exploring an element of the deep relationship between space and humanity – curated by the Karman Community as a reflection of key space topics that they’ve made individual commitments towards championing.

The project introduces each of the four chapters with an artistic film interpretation, and features numerous take-outs of over fifteen exclusive interviews with some of the world’s leading space actors from the Karman Community, who speak to their personal dreams and provide insights into the evolution of the space sector—highlighting the key role that trust and global cooperation play for humanity’s future. Besides many more, you can explore stories by space diplomacy pioneer Jean-Jacques Dordain, former NASA Associate Administrator and current SpaceX VP William Gerstenmaier, current International Space Station astronaut Thomas Pesquet, social business investor Karen Hitschke and space entrepreneur Chris Boshuizen, who is using space technology to impact life on earth.

The documentary film experience is going to be released on a bespokedigital platform built by a joint force of 200+ incredible artists, motion designers, creative coders and editors from around the globe.

The Karman Project and its community have set the groundwork for strategic discussions on the future of space cooperation for positive impact, and the documentary film experience seeks to transmit this message of impact to a global audience. The nonprofit and independent “space-for-impact” foundation gathers global leaders from the fields of science, tech, business, politics and the arts to build interdisciplinary projects and shape common agendas, placing space at the service of humankind.
